Travel Beauty Essentials

Regardless of whether we are going on a quick road trip this weekend or have a few weeks off for a real getaway, there are certain beauty products that we cannot go without. There is nothing like having your favourite products on hand after a long day of travelling. But no one wants to be carting around huge bottles everywhere so thought needs to go into what you will actually use. No one has room in their carry on for unnecessary items.

First thing is a good aqua mist. They are so refreshing and reinvigorating. Not only do they keep the skin hydrated and glowing but they also smell amazing. A personal favourite is the Coast to Coast Ultra Soothing Wild Rosella and Geranium Aqua Mist

Next on the essential list is for the body. Sometimes even the slightest change in climate can result in unfavourable reactions from the skin. One of the biggest problems is when my skin is unhappy it will usually become very dry, so a product is needed to that will be very ultra hydrating and soothing. When in doubt The Body Shop has a great range to choose from. One that never lets me down is their Vitamin E Moisture Cream

Now we have taken care of the skin but what about makeup? Travelling is the best opportunity to dial back the makeup routine and make do with the bare necessities. Whilst we would love to all go without any foundation or cover up on holidays, it is always good to have some on standby just in case a bad skin day is looming ahead. The Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream provides a natural level of coverage and is SPF 35. So its not as heavy as regular foundation but great when feeling the need to be a bit more put together.

Last but not least, for me there is no going anywhere without mascara. When it comes to travelling you just never know when you will stuck in the rain or going for an impromptu swim. So as far as I am concerned waterproof mascara is a must! It lasts much longer than regular mascara and can withstand just about anything. So the days you do decide to wear it, you will not be in a constant state of fear that the dreaded panda eyes could strike at any time.  And the Napoleon Perdis Mesmer Eyes Mascara never lets me down.

New York Fashion Week

Whilst we are enjoying the warmth and sunshine of a never ending summer in Queensland, at Mahlii headquarters we can’t help but be in awe of the spectacle taking place in the unimaginably cold New York during their current fashion week. Even the autumn/winter collections on display offer some incredible outfits and style ideas perfect for the Australian weather. Here are some of our favourites style moments we thought you would also appreciate. After all who doesn’t love some inspiration from some the best New York has to offer.

  Johnathan Simkhai

So much to love about this outfit by Johnathan Simkhai! From the subtlety of the high neck to the amazing but not over the top cut out details on the dress. And you just can not go wrong with a stylish all white outfit. Our Marho ‘Back to Basics’ top really great alternative for those who want to embrace the style more casually.

Prabal Gurung once again showed his amazing ability to mix structure with luxurious and effortless texture. His application of the cut out shoulder trend is so elegant and timeless. Similarly the our Banjara ‘Whirlwind Denim Dress’ is perfect wardrobe staple with this little extra detail also seen on the runway.

This Baja East look really encapsulates the relaxed cool vibe we adore at Mahlii. A pair of breezy khaki pants is without question a great purchase regardless of the season. We love anything that is equally comfortable and stylish.

This lavish Narciso Rodriguez metallic cami dress, perfect duster coat and muted accessories is a faultless combination. You don’t have to be a fashion insider to realise that the cami trend is going nowhere fast. Not only is it an undeniably graceful look, its great for the tropical climate we can never escape.

Our top 5 things to do at Burleigh

Our label is for beach babes and city day trippers alike so where better a place for the Mahlii girl to explore than hedonist paradise, Burleigh.

One of our favourite beaches on the Gold Coast, Burleigh is only an hour away from our Mahlii HQ and consequently where you’ll find us most weekends, eating delish açaí under the summer sunshine.

Here are our top five things to do in Burleigh…even if you don’t do them all it’s the perfect excuse to come back next time!

1. Eat Out

There are a million amazing lunch spots in Burleigh. Eating well is easy with so many amazing options like antipasto salads from Govindas, lemon & avocado on pita at The Pocket, or delicious goodies and coffee from Commune. Going all out on some indulgent eats at Burleigh institutions Ze Picke or pizzas at Justin Lane are a must.  One of our favourite Brisbane restaurants Longtime has opened a new restaurant at Burleigh called Rick Shores in an amazing location - the waves lap right up to the windows and the food is fresh and light, think modern Thai with plenty of seafood and salads.

2. Walking it off

Walk off all the amazing food on the beautiful Burleigh Headland walk with stunning outlooks of the crystal blue ocean. On the other side of the headland is the magical Tallebudgera Creek, perfect to cool down in.

3. Juices & Smoothie Bowls

Helen's Heavenly Wholefoods Cafe does delicious açaí bowls which are the perfect pick-me-up after a swim in the ocean. A little further down is a juice bar with lines that go on forever but is totally worth the wait. Plus a Cocowhip joint has just opened too... just to make deciding on a fruity treat even harder!

4. Swimming

Burleigh Beach is perfectly serene for swimming amongst glossy waves, crystal clear water and pandanus palms. If you’re not feeling the waves Tallebudgera Creek or Currumbin Beach are both close by and flat…bring your inflatable lilo and get ready to chill.

5. Shopping
James Street at Burleigh is full of amazing boutiques with homewares and clothing. Sean Scott Gallery has cool accessories, candles and bikinis. Further up Monsoon has really beautifully bright & printed homewares to deck out your pad. Plus the Burleigh Heads Village Markets on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of every month have sweet vintage finds, homewares & goodies for the bohemian babes.
